Day 2 Edinburgh to Fort Augustus - Our Adventure begins
Departing from Scotland’s capital city Edinburgh, we’ll begin our journey, stopping to see the impressive Forth Railway Bridge. We will then embark on the next leg of our journey, venturing northwest into the breath-taking landscapes of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. This stunning area, known for its serene lochs, rolling hills, and dense woodlands, offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and tranquillity. We will continue our expedition further north, where the landscape grows even more awe-inspiring. Our path leads us to the majestic Glen Coe, a place steeped in history and renowned for its rugged beauty. From here, we'll make our way to the pretty village of Fort Augustus. This village sits on the southern shores of Loch Ness, so you’ll have plenty of time and some fantastic vantage points to try to spot to the elusive monster, Nessie. Fort Augustus will be your overnight stop.
Day 3 From Fort Augustus to Skye - Loch Ness cruise and Eilean Donan Castle
We’ll spend the morning in Fort Augustus, where you can decide to join a cruise of Loch Ness if you’d like to explore further. Or just enjoy your time in this pretty village. From here, we will journey to Eilean Donan Castle (admission extra), one of Scotland's most beautiful, and iconic, castles, with an incredble setting on Loch Duich, beneath the mountains of Kintail. We will spend some time to take in the views, before crossing the bridge to Skye, which will be the overnight base for the next two nights on tour.
Day 4 Discovering Skye
We have a full day discovering the "Misty Isle". To the far north and the outstanding Trotternish Peninsula, The Kilt Rock and The Old Man of Storr. Your experienced and knowledgeable guide will ensure you get the most out of your day and enjoy sights such as the craggy Cuillin Mountains. Portree is your lunch stop, where you can enjoy delicious fish and chips next to the harbour – just watch out for the seagulls! Still lots to discover this afternoon on this magical island.
Day 5 Skye to Edinburgh - Stunning Scenery As We Travel Homeward
This morning we will depart Skye, heading south to join a ferry from Armadale to Mallaig. A beautiful fishing village located on the West Coast of the Scottish mainland, which will be our lunch stop for the day. Next we will join the Jacobite Steam Train (or Hogwarts Express!) and enjoy the stunning 2-hour train trip (this journey is subject to operations of the Jacobite Steam Train). The train will slow as we cross the iconic Glenfinnan Viaduct, seen in the Harry Potter film, should for any reason the Jacobite Steam Train not be available we will instead follow the journey by road, with stop to admire the incredible views. Your driver-guide will meet you at Fort William train station where you will re-board the bus. We will journey to Pitlochry, which offers the chance to explore its charming Victorian architecture and vibrant local shops set against the backdrop of the picturesque Scottish Highlands. You'll then say goodbye to the Highlands and continue into the lowlands, returning to Edinburgh. Overnight at Edinburgh.
